Police want to find the owners of nearly three dozen stolen bicycles found at two homes in Carlsbad California

Investigators searched two residences in downtown Carlsbad on Friday and Tuesday and found 35 bicycles and other various bicycle parts.

During the search, five people were arrested for drug charges including possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and being under the influence of a controlled substance.

During the past couple of months the City of Carlsbad experienced a significant increase in the number of bicycles being reported stolen. The thefts prompted a special and ongoing investigation that resulted in the recovery of the bicycles.

“I think we found a group of people responsible for the bulk of the trend we’ve identified,” said Pascual.

Community members that have recently had their bicycles stolen are asked to contact the police department at 760-931-2142 or judy.thomas@carlsbadca.gov to identify and recover their bicycle.
