perspective, or contrast and comparison on Toyota vs GM getting fined by the US Govt

Toyota paid 1.2 billion for improperly reporting the problems of the runaway cars

GM, who was largely owned by the US Govt due to it's bankruptcy, paid 35 million for killing people with that faulty ignition switch

Now, compare that info from someone writing into the Nov 2014 issue of Car and Driver, with the response from the editor

"Toyota's fine was a criminal penalty for hiding information from the govt. GM paid a civil penalty for a botched recall."

So I leave it to you to decide what you feel about the Govt giving out a fine 35 times less for killing people with the ignition switch vs the runaway car killing people. 35 million is 0.03% of 1.2 billion.
