the LeTourneau electric arctic land trains has a great write up recently on http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2009/11/19/54-wheel-drive-the-letourneau-electric-arctic-land-trains-that-put-australian-road-trains-to-shame/

Above, the Kee Bird, which was the subject of an awesome recovery effort when private funding got it up and running, and moving, but old electrical wiring shorted, and the whole thing burned to cinders on film while a documentary was being filmed, it is so worth seeing!

Von Dutch invented lace painting, Watson perfected it

image via: http://customsickles.blogspot.com/

From Rod and Custom Oct 96, page 125:
One night while laying in bed, Larry Watson's thoughts jumped back 10 years to a long "pow-wow" with the legendary Von Dutch. He had told Watson about the time he lifted up a doily laying on his workbench and the bitchin' design that was left, from the overspray in the shop. Dutch liked it so much he cleared over the imprint - and would tell everyone this was his favorite area of the workbench.

bet you didn't know that! Watson used the idea to try something new, it was on Doug Carrey's Grand Prix and won best paint in the '67 L.A. Sports Arena Custom Car Show.

The rare supercharged Graham

Looks mundane, packs a punch. You would admire the old car, think some old guy has a cool 4 banger or maybe a flatthead under the hood, but drool to see an original supercharger if the cowl came up

1931 was the last of the Detroit Electrics, and 80 years later no one has perfected another

Smokey's Chevelle is for sale! (You know, THAT one) (Where can a guy sell a kidney around here for some dough to buy a legendary car?)

via: http://autoculture.org/?p=790 This was the car that Smokey was supposed to have driven off from tech inspection when they were pissing him off, and left his fuel tank behind... on the hidden fuel supply

Now that is straight from the May 1968 Motor Trend article on Daytona 500, referring to the qualifying
